| Education Program
School-Museum Partnership:
This
program is an ongoing relationship between the Michelson Museum of Art
and the eight surrounding school districts. The programs in First, Fourth,
Sixth and Seventh Grades are in two sessions taught by the Museum staff.
The first session is in the school classroom and includes a hands-on
session in which the students make a piece of art that is theirs to
keep. The second
session is in the museum gallery on a subsequent day. The students come
to the Michelson to experience the art they learned about in the classroom.
Teacher Workshops:
The Education Director plans and coordinates workshops for area teachers
in conjunction with the featured touring exhibits. Teachers of all grade
levels and subjects are invited and encouraged to attend. Art is relevant
to many academic areas, and ways to integrate are into their lessons
are provided for the participants.
Summer Art Classes:
Each Summer art classes are offered to both children and adults. Classes
in drawing, origami, acrylics, pastels, calligraphy, watercolor, puppet
making, Art History and many other subjects are taught.
Dr. David Weisman Hirsch Discovery Room:
This room provides hands-on activities for primary students. Here they
experience the fun of making their own designs using varied shapes,
colors and materials as well as computers. The children are encouraged
to move freely in the room using any and all of the materials and equipment.
The motto in the Discovery Room is Please Do Touch Everything
Here. Seeing the creativity of young children is truly delightful.
The Education Program is offered to area Community Colleges, Colleges
and Universities in the area. Mothers Day Out, Pre-School, Home
School, Special Needs Classes, Clubs and Civic groups, also take part
in our education program.
Tours and gallery talks for all levels can be scheduled upon availability
of staff.
